Egypt part three

Day 4, Aswan Egypt. Today we checked out of our great Aswan hotel and headed to the cruise boat. We had three nights on the cruise ship coming up. Before the cruise ship ‘put out to the river’ we explored Aswan a little more by way of a Felucca boat.

Our confidence inspiring capitan:

We took the felucca to an island bound botanical garden. Basically the whole island is a large garden with many rare species of plants. If you are a botonist, this is the place for you!

Wild Poinsetta:

The dock is very small and the island has a lot of tourist’s, so this is what happens:

It all seems to work out though.

Our cruise ship was nice and very comfortable. All the meals were buffet style, but you had a specific table that you kept for the entire journey.

The next day we spent on the Nile. Paty and I did some sunbathing on the upper deck of our ship. Well, she bathed and I drank cold Egyptian beers while watching the Nile pass by. It was quite nice.

This boat is a sister ship of ours that passed by:

We had two temples to visit this day. The first temple had us departing the ship at 7 AM. I don’t have any pictures of this as I did not attend. Of our 14 tour group members, only 7 made the morning trek.

But in the afternoon we docked at another temple pictured below:

This outside façade is 38 meters tall, about 125 feet for those metrically challenged.
Paty and the famous owl statue:

We took a horse drawn carriage back and forth from the temple to the ship. It was about a 20 minute ride.

Back to the cruise boat and it’s time for an evening cocktail while watching the sun set:

This will be the last time we EVER discuss this evening:

Our third day on the cruise ship found us in Luxor. The ship travels at night mostly.
Luxor was great. I highly recommend anyone going to Egypt to try and steal an extra day in Luxor. The city itself has a reported population of 200,000 but the downtown area is quite a manageable size. The main temple is built smack dab in the middle of the city.

Another temple, but this temple might have been my favorite of the trip.

to be continued......
